In the Golden Triangle we'll visit various hill tribes and a tea plantation, and take a cruise on the Mekong River, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet.Rainforests and Raft HousesWe catch a flight to Khao Sok National Park where we spend 3 nights in this breathtaking reserve, one of the world's oldest evergreen rainforests characterised by the dramatic limestone formations that rise out of the water. We also enjoy a boat ride to Coral Cave and explore the raft houses that the park is famous for.

Day 1. Depart Australia - Arrive Bangkok

Welcome to Thailand and bustling Bangkok! The capital of Thailand, Bangkok is one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in Asia, full of mega-malls, Buddhist temples, floating markets and intense traffic.

Day 2. Bangkok

Today we tour the city. Our first stop is the monolithic Golden Buddha, weighing more than 5.5 tonnes, then we explore the many buildings that make up the Royal Grand Palace. We'll also see Wat Pho and the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This afternoon we enjoy a typical Thai longboat cruise through the canals before our group welcome dinner tonight. [B,D]

Day 3. Bangkok

Enjoy the day at leisure to experience Bangkok at your own pace. This evening we'll visit the Asiatique night market and then witness the buzzing nightlife on a tour by tuk tuk. [B]

Day 4. Bangkok - Kanchanaburi

This morning we visit the floating markets at Damnn Saduak to watch the locals in traditional boats selling a variety of fruit, vegetables and souvenirs. We'll then leave the city behind and travel to Kanchanaburi, crossing the famous bridge over the River Kwai by train and visiting the Allied War Cemetery en route. [B,D]

Day 5. Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya

We visit Hellfire Pass and the Australian-funded museum and memorial to our World War II diggers. We then travel north to the ruins of the former capital of Siam, Ayutthaya, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. [B,L,D]

Special Experience: Tonight we'll dine on board a converted teak rice barge as it drifts down the Chao Phraya River and tributaries, enjoying the beautiful setting at dusk.

Day 6. Ayutthaya - Phitsanulok

We travel north through the Thai countryside to Phitsanulok and visit Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat - a working Buddhist temple. This evening we'll experience the culinary theatrics of the Morning Glory show. [B,L]

Day 7. Phitsanulok - Chiang Rai

Before we depart Phitsanulok, we visit Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand. After a lovely lunch here we'll continue our journey north to Chiang Rai. [B,L]

Day 8. Golden Triangle

Today we explore the 'Golden Triangle', the former centre of the world's opium trade. Our day begins with a visit to the hill tribe villages of the Akha and Yao people, where women still wear the traditional clothing and headdress. We then visit a tea plantation and try some of the local brew. [B,D]

Special Experience: This afternoon we'll enjoy a cruise along the Mekong River in a traditional boat to where the borders of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet.

Day 9. Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai

After breakfast we take the scenic route to Chiang Mai, stopping at the craft workshops in San Kamphaeng. Here we'll be able to see silk being woven, visit a bronze workshop, and watch as beautiful hand-painted silk parasols are made. We'll visit the beautiful Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple, with stunning views over Chiang Mai from its location high up on the mountain. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. [B,L]

Day 10. Chiang Mai

Special Experience: Visit the Elephant Nature Park and watch these rescued elephants enjoy their freedom while bathing and playing in the river. Learn about the park's objectives and how the Save the Elephant Foundation works.

Day 12. Chiang Mai - Khao Sok National Park

The morning is at leisure before our flight to stunning Khao Sok via Sura Thani. [B,D]

Special Experience: We'll spend the next 3 nights in the truly breathtaking Khao Sok National Park, one of the world's oldest evergreen rainforests, characterised by the dramatic limestone formations that rise out of the water.

Day 13. Khao Sok National Park

This morning we head out on a jungle walk to discover more of the park's abundant flora and fauna and enjoy some incredible views. After lunch at the lodge we'll explore the Sok River by can. Enjoy the evening at leisure with dinner at the lodge. [B,L,D]

Day 14. Khao Sok National Park

After a quick jungle walk we arrive at the pier of stunning Cheow Lan Lake, where we'll take a short boat ride to Coral Cave. We'll enjoy lunch and some time at leisure on one of the traditional raft houses that the park is famous for. We'll then cruise back to Cheow Lan Lake by long-tailed boat and return to the lodge in time for our group farewell dinner. [B,L,D]

Day 15. Khao Sok National Park - Phuket

This morning we transfer to the resort town of Phuket, where the rest of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure. [B]

Day 16. Depart Phuket

Today we begin our journey home. [B]
