From the scenic principality of Andorra we'll then venture down to the Bay of Biscay, travelling through seaside San Sebastian and the diverse city of Bilbao, home to Gehry's celebrated Guggenheim Museum. We head west to historic Santiago de Compostela, at the end of the centuries-old Camino pilgrimage route, and the supposed burial site of the apostle St James.Portuguese DelightsWe'll cross the border into Portugal and colourful Porto, taste the traditional port and cruise along the Douro. Enjoy the scenery as we travel south to Coimbra, stopping in 'Portuguese Venice' - the charming town of Aveiro. Discover the beautiful university and its library before we make our way to Lisbon to experience the famous custard tart.The Sun-drenched SouthWe spend 2 nights exploring Portugal's dramatic southern coastline in the beautiful Algarve region. Enjoy the colourful villages, fresh seafood markets and rugged scenery. We'll then return inland, crossing the border back into Spain and venturing to our finish in majestic Madrid.

Day 2. Arrive Barcelona

Welcome to Spain and the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona! Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Director for a welcome drink this evening.

Day 3. Barcelona

Today we explore Barcelona, visiting its most famous sights. Our sightseeing includes La Sagrada Familia, Plaza Catalunya, and the Plaza San Jaume. We'll also travel to the top of Montjuic Mountain for panoramic views over the city and its harbour. Tonight we enjoy a group welcome dinner at a local restaurant. [B,D]

Day 4. Barcelona

This morning we get acquainted with Antonio Gaudi's Barcelona. See the incredible Casa Batllo, Casa Mila and visit G ell Park - home to more truly unique works of art by Gaudi. [B]

Day 5. Barcelona - Andorra

After breakfast, we depart for the principality of Andorra, a scenic mini-country nestled in the middle of the Pyrenees mountains. We'll discover the highlights on an orientation tour this afternoon. [B]

Day 6. Andorra - San Sebastian

Sit back and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery as we travel west to the Bay of Biscay and the beachside town of San Sebastian. [B]

Day 7. San Sebastian

Stunning San Sebastian is famous for its pintxos and golden beaches and today we'll get to experience both. We begin the day with a city tour and ride the cable car to the top of Igueldo Mountain for beautiful panoramic views of Santa Clara Island, Mount Ulia and La Concha Bay.

Special Experience: Taste txakoli, the region's famous dry white wine which pairs perfectly with a side of pintxos.

The afternoon is at leisure for you to enjoy the beach location and soak up the sun. [B]

Day 8. San Sebastian - Bilbao

This morning we make the short trip to Bilbao, the Basque Country's largest city and a delightful mix of tradition and modernity. Here we'll explore Frank Gehry's celebrated Guggenheim Museum. The building's incredible exterior isn't the only thing to see - the museum is also home to one of the world's largest art collections. [B]

Day 9. Bilbao

Our city tour today includes the Santiago Cathedral, Plaza Nueva and Mercado de la Ribera, built on the site of the original Rivera Street market and said to be one of Europe's biggest covered food markets. We'll also make our way to the top of Mt Artxanda for spectacular city views. This afternoon we'll travel out to Gernika to visit the Peace Museum. [B]

Day 10. Bilbao - Oviedo

We depart Bilbao and continue west, following the northern Spanish coastline to Oviedo. Famous for its historic old quarter with a distinct medieval flavour, it's the perfect place for exploring on foot. Our walking tour here includes the cathedral, the Valdecarnaza Palace, and the ruins of the San Tirso church, and we'll pass through the Porlier Square surrounded by magnificent palaces: the Toreno and the Camposagrado Palaces. Day 11. Oviedo - Santiago de Compostela

Our next destination is historic Santiago de Compostela, the culmination point of the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, and the supposed burial site of the apostle St James. [B,D]

Day 12. Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast, we discover the Galician capital on a city tour. Highlights include the famous Cathedral (believed home to the remains of St James), the surrounding squares of Obradoiro, Quintana, Inmaculada and Prater as, and the historic r as. This afternoon we'll visit the nearby port city of A Coru a. [B]

Day 13. Santiago de Compostela

Special Experience: Today we walk part of the centuries-old pilgrimage route, the famous "Camino de Santiago". [B,D]

Day 14. Santiago de Compostela - Porto

This morning we cross the border into Portugal and travel to colourful Porto. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in one of Europe's oldest cities. [B]

Day 15. Porto

Our day begins with a city tour to discover the Ribeira Quarter and visit St Francisco Church and the famous Stock Exchange Palace, Pal cio da Bolsa.

Special Experience: We'll learn how port is made and get to taste it at one of the city's many producers.

Enjoy a scenic cruise along the Douro River later this afternoon. [B]

Day 16. Porto - Coimbra

We continue south, stopping in beautiful Aveiro, the "Portuguese Venice". We'll enjoy a tour and have some free time for lunch before departing for Coimbra. Nestled on the river, this charming university town was once Portugal's capital. Here we'll see the university and the breathtaking Coimbra Library, a masterpiece of gilt wood-work. [B]

Day 17. Coimbra - Lisbon

Today we travel to Lisbon, stopping along the way at the coastal town of Nazar and the medieval walled village of bidos. We'll also visit picturesque Sintra, set amongst lush forests and overflowing with exotic gardens and palaces. Here we'll tour the Manueline-style National Palace. [B]

Day 18. Lisbon

This morning we discover captivating Lisbon. Our sightseeing tour includes Park Edward VII and Rossio Square, as well as the district of Bel m, where we'll find the Statue of Columbus, Bel m Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries.

Special Experience: Taste the famous Portuguese custard tart at Antiga Confeitaria.

We also visit the beautifully intricate Jeronimus Monastery. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore at your own pace. [B]

Day 19. Lisbon - The Algarve

Portugal's breathtaking southern coast awaits. Today we travel to the Algarve, famous for its golden beaches, rugged coastline and cheerful villages. [B]

Day 20. The Algarve

Today we'll explore some of the lesser-known towns in the region, spending time in Tavira, Faro and Olhao, the Algarve's biggest fishing port with a great market. [B]

Day 21. The Algarve - Evora

Our next destination is the town of Evora, a significant centre for trade and religion in years gone by. Founded by the Romans and later fortified by the Moors, the city has a diverse mix of architecture and attractions. Our walking tour here includes the roman and gothic cathedral, the Roman Temple, Saint Francis church and the Bone Chapel. [B]

Day 22. Evora - Madrid

We cross the border back into Spain and wind our way through the beautiful Spanish countryside to Madrid. [B]

Day 23. Madrid

Overflowing with palaces, museums and grand squares, Madrid is a truly majestic city. We'll see the highlights on a city tour, including the famous avenues of Gran Via and Castellana, Plaza de Espana, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Castilla and Retiro Park. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before tonight's group farewell dinner. [B,D]
