This morning head south for Takeo Province. On the way pass Tonle Bati, a recreation area where the Khmers like to spend their leisure time. However, during the weekdays, the site is quiet and peaceful. Tonle Bati Temple is an Angkorian-style temple and remains largely intact. Your next destination is Phnom Chisor, where you can climb up to the top of the mountain to explore the well-preserved ruins of a 10th century Angkorian temple. Enjoy an amazing view over the typical Cambodian countryside. Continue to Takeo, a small town that is truly Cambodian in every sense. Enjoy a simple but tasty lunch at a Local Restaurant. From here we take a boat down a peaceful river to the archaeological museum of Angkor Borei and the temple ruins of Phnom Da. Continue to Kep. Cambodia's prestigious beach resort of the 1960s is now awakening to its former glory. A fascinating mix of a small calm beach and reminders of the past.
Overnight in Kep.
Note: The boat trip to Angkor Borei and Phnom Da can be operated in high water season from August January only and in low water season from February July we take land transfer instead.
Transfer to the pier for a short boat ride (20-30 minutes) across the bay to the small, beautiful, and undeveloped island of Koh Tonsai or Rabbit Island. There is a walking track that circumnavigates the island passing small fishing villages. This beautiful walk takes around 2.5 3 hours along beaches and flat jungle trails and offers some great photo opportunities. After lunch you will have more time to relax, swim or explore before heading back to Kep.
Overnight in Kep
Today enjoy the morning at your own leisure. Visit the Crab market where an ocean side cluster of rickety old wooden shacks hug the water's edge selling famous Kep Crab, shrimps, squid and fish. This afternoon transfer back to Phnom Penh (3 hours).
