We take in the holy city of Varanasi as we cruise along the Ganges. One of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, and a sacred place for Hindus, we'll watch as the locals perform their colourful daily rituals.Behold the Taj MahalWe'll take in the incredible Taj Mahal at sunrise and visit Agra Fort, known for its fine Mughal architecture. We'll search for tigers on safari through Ranthambore National Park, one of the biggest National Parks in India.Relax in the SouthAs our journey heads south, we'll visit mind-blowing Mumbai.   • Visit the deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri which was built in 1569 but abandoned 15 years later due to lack of water. The sheer size of this city and its well-preserved state will astound you!
  • Ride up to the magnificent Amber Fort in Jaipur by jeep, followed by a tour of the many beautiful rooms within the fort including the amazing Hall of Mirrors. Here the light of a single match sets off a dazzling display as it is reflected by thousands of tiny mirrors that line the walls.
  • Enjoy a 1/2 day tour of the pink city of Jaipur including Johari Bazaar, Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), City Palace Complex museums and ancient Jantar Mantar Observatory.

Day 1. Depart Australia - Arrive Delhi

Welcome to Delhi, India's bustling capital!

Day 2. Delhi

Departing late morning, we embark on a sightseeing tour of New Delhi. Highlights here include Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb. Tonight we'll enjoy traditional Indian delicacies at a group welcome dinner. [B,D]

Day 3. Delhi

A busy morning touring Old Delhi. We'll discover the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, take a rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk and an exotic spice tour of Khari Baoli market. [B]

Day 4. Delhi - Varanasi

Today we fly to the holy city of Varanasi, the spiritual home of Hinduism and the cultural capital of India. [B]

Special Experience: This evening we take a rickshaw down to the holy Ganges River to observe the aarti prayer ceremony, performed at Dashashvamedh Ghat daily at sunset.

Day 5. Varanasi

We start the day with a boat ride on the Ganges. As the sun rises we'll watch the devotees who come to perform their purification rituals. [B]

Day 6. Varanasi - Khajuraho

Enjoy the morning at leisure before our flight to Khajuraho. This evening we'll experience a garden sound and light show which traces the story of these unique temples from the 10th century to the present day. [B]

Day 7. Khajuraho

Today we'll explore Khajuraho's Chandella Dynasty temples. Originally about 85 temples were constructed, 20 of which still exist today. Some of these structures are amongst India's greatest works of art. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to relax or explore at your own pace. [B]

Day 8. Khajuraho - Orchha

This morning we depart for Orchha, stopping at a rural farm along the way to get an insight into day-to-day life. Upon arrival in Orchha, we visit the Jehangir Mahal, Raj Mahal and the famous Raja Ram Temple, which dates back to the 17th century. [B]

Day 9. Orchha - Agra

Today we make our way to Agra, home of the incredible Taj Mahal. [B]

Special Experience: Visit Gwalior Fort, an impressive 8th-century hill fortress with a perfumed underground pool, then board the Gatimaan Express train to Agra.

Day 10. Agra

Watch the sun rise this morning over the breathtaking Taj Mahal, coating it in a pearly-pink mist. We'll also explore Agra Fort, known for its fine Mughal architecture, and then step back in time visiting Baby Taj, otherwise known as the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. [B]

A note on Taj Mahal renovations: For the past two years the iconic Taj Mahal has been undergoing a mud-pack therapy treatment to clean and protect its ivory-white surface. The restoration process is nearing the end, however some restoration may continue into 2019.

Day 11. Agra - Ranthambore

As we travel to Ranthambore National Park, we'll stop to visit the deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. We'll then take a short journey on the local train to Sawai Madhopur and continue by road into Ranthambore. [B,D]

Day 12. Ranthambore National Park

Famous for its tigers, Ranthambore National Park is our destination today. We'll head out on a safari by shared Canter vehicle in search of these beautiful predators in their natural environment. [B,L,D]

Day 13. Ranthambore - Jaipur

Our search for tigers continues this morning. We'll also try to spot leopards, hyenas, jackals, porcupines, crocodiles, deer and gazelle. After lunch we depart for the 'Pink City', Jaipur. Jaipur is a bustling capital city, a business centre and a metropolis that still manages to retain its age-old charm. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. [B,L,D]

Special Experience: Tonight we'll interact with a local family during a traditional cooking lesson, then join them for dinner.

Day 14. Jaipur

Our day in the Rajasthani capital begins at majestic Amber Fort. One of the most exquisite creations in the Amber Fort is the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors); its walls are covered with tiny mirrors and when dark can become a dazzling fantasy with the light of a single match. This afternoon, we drive through the famous Johari Bazaar on the way to the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) - a major landmark of the city. Later we visit the rich and prosperous museums located inside the elegant City Palace Complex and the ancient Jantar Mantar Observatory. [B]

Day 15. Jaipur - Mumbai

This morning we fly to Mumbai, India's city that never sleeps. Our afternoon city tour includes the Marine Drive, Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum, the Prince of Wales Museum and the Hanging Gardens. [B]

Day 16. Mumbai

Today we will undertake an extraordinary tour of Mumbai, indulging each of the 5 senses. See the historic colonial precinct of Mumbai. Listen to incredible Bollywood music and learn some of the dance moves. Taste some of the amazing local delicacies. Take in the smells of the many flowers on display in Mumbai's flower market. Touch peoples lives by volunteering in an activity or two at a local charity. [B,L]

Day 17. Mumbai - Goa

Today we fly south to beautiful Goa, the easternmost capital of the former Portuguese Empire, on India's west coast. Strung along Goa's 100-kilometre-long coastline are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and dazzling stretches of golden sand edging the expanse of the Arabian Sea. [B]

Day 18. Goa

Special Experience: Tour a stunning 300 year-old Portuguese mansion and enjoy a decadent five-course lunch, inspired by the flavours of Portugal and India. [B,L]

Day 19. Goa

Enjoy a day at leisure to relax in this beautiful beach setting. [B]

Day 20. Goa - Kochi

The morning is at leisure before this afternoon's flight to Kochi, a vibrant city situated on India's south-west coast in the scenic state of Kerala. Facing the Arabian Sea, Kochi has one of the finest natural harbours in the world. The older parts of the city are an unlikely blend of medieval Portuguese, Dutch and English country village grafted onto the tropical Malabar Coast. [B]

Day 21. Kochi - Alleppey

After breakfast we travel to Alleppey and board a traditional houseboat to cruise through the peaceful backwaters of Kerala. Sit back and relax as we meander through the maze of canals. [B,L,D]

Day 22. Alleppey - Kochi

After disembarking, we return to Kochi and spend the afternoon seeing the sights of the city. Highlights include the Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace and St Francis Church. This evening we'll enjoy a group farewell dinner and a classical Kathakali dance performance. [B,D]

Day 23. Depart Kochi

Tonight we begin our journey home. [B,L]
