Welcome to Jordan! This afternoon we'll take a short city-sightseeing tour, including some free time to explore the souq of Old Amman, before a group welcome dinner this evening. [D]
Today we visit the beautifully preserved Roman cities of Umm Qais and Jerash, as well as the impressive Ajloun Castle. [B,D]
Heading out of Amman, we make our way to Madaba and visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St George and the biblical site of Mt Nebo. [B]
Special Experience: Drive a bit further into the desert and discover the famous desert castles of Qasr A-Kharrana, Quseir Amra, and the black basalt fort at Azraq.
We make the journey to Wadi Rum. Arriving in one of the most stunning desertscapes in the world, we'll take an exciting jeep tour through the uniquely shaped landscape carved by nature, guided by local Bedouin tribesmen, then enjoy a late afternoon camel ride. We'll spend the night in a Bedouin style desert camp. [B,L,D]
This morning we'll continue south to picturesque Aqaba on the Red Sea and enjoy a cruise through the crystal-clear waters of the Aqaba Marine Park. [B,L]
As we make our way towards incredible Petra, we'll stop to visit "Little Petra", also known as Siq al-Barid, a Nabatean site characterised by buildings carved into the sandstone canyon walls. [B,D]
Today we visit the famous Lost City of Petra. Carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago, it was an important junction for the silk and spice trade routes. [B,D]
Special Experience: We'll enter Petra through the Siq, a narrow, 800-metre-long gorge flanked on either side by soaring 80-metre-high cliffs, before we reach the incredible Treasury, hewn into the sandstone cliff face.
This morning we venture south to the lowest point on Earth - the Dead Sea. Along the way we'll stop at the 12th century Crusader castle of Shobak. [B,D]
Special Experience: Take a dip in the Dead Sea and cover your body in the therapeutic mud, said to have amazing benefits for your skin.
Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to Cairo. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before a group dinner to welcome us to Egypt. [B,D]
Our touring in Egypt begins at the oldest structures in existence, the amazing Great Pyramids of Giza. We'll visit the nearby Great Sphinx and also discover the ancient capital of Memphis and the Step Pyramid of Sakkara. [B]
After breakfast we travel to Wadi el Natroun, home to some of the earliest Christian monasteries. Originally there were 50 monasteries here but only four have survived to modern times. [B,L]
Special Experience: In the Nitrian Desert visit the self-sufficient Coptic Monastery of St Bishoy, the 'Star of the Desert'.
Today we explore Alexandria. Highlights include the National Museum, Pompey's Pillar, the Catacombs, the New Bibliotheca, Montazah Palace and the Citadel of Qaitbay. [B,L]
Our journey takes us westward through the dunes along the Mediterranean coast, following the route of Field Marshal Montgomery to El Alamein. [B]
Special Experience: We visit the Commonwealth War Cemetery, where the fallen from the Battle of El Alamein lay at rest.
Today begins in the heart of lively Cairo with a visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum. We'll then visit the 12th century Saladin Citadel of Cairo and the Mohammed Ali Mosque. Our last stop is the 14th century Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. [B]
This morning we fly to Luxor in Upper Egypt. Here we'll explore the fascinating Karnak Temple, once linked to Luxor Temple by an Avenue of Sphinxes. [B]
Our first stop today is the Valley of the Kings. We'll be able to descend into some of the tombs to see the elaborate hieroglyphic paintings. We'll then discover the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. [B,L,D]
Embark Cruise: This afternoon we board our Nile River cruise ship.
We set sail for Edfu this morning, crossing the lock at Esna and continuing south. [B,L,D]
This morning we visit the magnificent Temple of Horus, dedicated to the Falcon God. Tonight we'll experience a traditional galabeya party on board. [B,L,D]
Special Experience: An early start this morning to cross the desert. Our destination is the incredible twin temples of Abu Simbel, originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II.
Disembark Cruise: We disembark the cruise.
Today we explore Aswan. Highlights of our sightseeing include the High Dam, the picturesque Temple of Isis on Philae Island, and the Unfinished Obelisk.
This afternoon we'll relax on a cruise along the Nile on board a traditional felucca. [B]
