Begin your day with a tour of your resort. The Homestead opened ten years before the Declaration of Independence was signed and has hosted presidents, royalty and celebrities over the years. Or, perhaps you’d prefer a more adventurous outing exploring the local trails by mountain bike. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Today we head east, traveling through scenic Shenandoah Valley. Visit Monticello, the beautiful home and gardens of Thomas Jefferson, who was not only the third U.S. President and author of the Declaration of Independence, but an accomplished inventor and true “Renaissance man.” Later we arrive in Richmond, the capital of Virginia and one of America’s oldest and most historic cities. Check in to your hotel, The Jefferson, which dates back to 1895 and is considered Richmond’s grandest hotel and one of the finest in America.
