Arrival at Rio and transfer to the hotel. Rio de Janeiro is the cultural capital of Brazil. Over its nearly 500 years of history, it has been the spring board for all the country’s principal cultural exports, and the port of entry for major international art exhibitions or musical events bringing top names from the classical to the contemporary. Rio’s architecture embraces churches and buildings dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries, blending with the world renowned designs of the 20th. In the South Zone, along the sea front, the city preserves the memory of names such as Tom Jobim and JoÃ£o Gilberto, who wrote the first chords of the Bossa Nova. Breakfast and depart to visit the Sugar Loaf Mountain. It was, at the feet of Urca Hill, that the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded in 1565 by EstÃ¡cio de SÃ¡. The visit is done in two steps, by modern cable-car. The first ride of the cable-car links Praia Vermelha to Urca Hill, located at 215 meters of altitude, a point from which can be seen all the Guanabara Bay and its islands, the Flamengo landfilling, the Corcovado and the Rio-NiterÃ³i bridge, besides the majestic mountains that protect and embellish the city. In the belvedere exist a fast Food area, an anphiteatrum and a Heli-pad. The second ride, that we will made on cable car, takes to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain, at 395 meters of altitude, from where can be seen, in a unique perspective, the beach of Copacabana, the Santa Cruz Fortress, some beaches of NiterÃ³i in a fantastic scenery. Lunch time (not included). Then depart to visit the Christ the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain by Tijuca Forest. See the most famous of all images of Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Transfer to the airport for flight to Manaus. Manaus is located in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest. This isolation helped preserve both the nature as well as the culture of the city. Manaus is the most populous city in the Brazilian Amazon area. The SolimÃµes and Negro rivers meet in Manaus and join to form the Amazon River (using the Brazilian definition of the river; elsewhere, SolimÃµes is considered the upper part of the Amazon). Rubber made it the richest city in South America during the late 1800s. Rubber also helped Manaus earn its nickname, the "Paris of the Tropics". Upon arrival pick up and transfer to the Hotel Tropical Manaus or similar.
Meet at the lobby of the Tropical Hotel at 14:00 hrs. Boarding and depart upstream on the Rio Negro while we drink a fresh fruit juice and listen to the initial instructions. After a snack we meet in the leisure room for lectures about Amazon where we will have a good start on understanding Amazon ecology. After Dinner we will explore little creeks in our cans and listen to the sounds of nocturnal animals with the possibility of observing birds, frogs, snakes and caimans. Early morning we explore the surroundings along the waters edge in our cans while we mainly find fruit eating birds like parrots and toucans. After breakfast we go for a jungle walk, we discover many surprising fragrances in leaves, fruits, woods and animals. Around midday we return and we may go for a swim, before lunch. In the afternoon, we navigate through the Anavilhanas National Park, one of the world`s largest fresh water archipelagos, a labyrinth of waterways. Early this morning, we spend a little time fishing for piranhas and other fishes. After breakfast we visit a "Natives Community" where we find many of the typical Amazonian fruits like CupuaÃ§u and Tapereba, palm trees like AÃ§aÃ, TucumÃ£ and Pupunha. We learn about the preparation of manioc flour and the health and education situation of the children. After lunch we are landing on one of the white sandy beaches to swim in the dark water and enjoy the Pink River Dolphins. Exploring by can and scout for wildlife in the late afternoon. Early this morning we explore the Lago January Ecological Park. This area is usually a very good place to observe wildlife and chances to see the "Victoria Regia" the giant water lilies. While we have breakfast we navigate to the "Meeting of the Waters", the confluence of the world`s two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro. Now is time to return to the Tropical Hotel landing-stage while we join fine views of Manaus` waterfront. Arrival at 11h30m and transfer to Manaus airport for your onward flight. Trip concludes.
